I just changed my profile to indicate that I really won't be using LJ at all any more. Not that this is really news, but it seems good to wrap up loose ends. Everything will be at http://fleeep.net if you want to see what I'm up to.

Hope all of you are doing well wherever you are.

Thanks to Zero Cool, the PDF doc is located at http://blog.wired.com/27BStroke6/att_klein_wired.pdf. The first couple pages describe the allegation that AT&T participated in splitting off internet traffic signals for analysis by an unamed agency. Following the statement are what appears to be AT&T docs with diagrams showing the splitter, etc.

Someone on the BBS posted an article about Wired publishing documents related to the EFF's suit against AT&T, but the link to the documents is already throwing a 404. Not sure how long they were up or if they got out into the wild wild net before they were pulled down or not.

Why We Published the AT&T Docs

By Evan Hansen| Also by this reporter
02:00 AM May, 22, 2006

A file detailing aspects of AT&T's alleged participation in the National Security Agency's warrantless domestic wiretap operation is sitting in a San Francisco courthouse. But the public cannot see it because, at AT&T's insistence, it remains under seal in court records.

The judge in the case has so far denied requests from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, or EFF, and several news organizations to unseal the documents and make them public.

AT&T claims information in the file is proprietary and that it would suffer severe harm if it were released.

Based on what we've seen, Wired News disagrees. In addition, we believe the public's right to know the full facts in this case outweighs AT&T's claims to secrecy.

As a result, we are publishing the complete text of a set of documents from the EFF's primary witness in the case, former AT&T employee and whistle-blower Mark Klein -- information obtained by investigative reporter Ryan Singel through an anonymous source close to the litigation. The documents, available on Wired News as of Monday, consist of 30 pages, with an affidavit attributed to Klein, eight pages of AT&T documents marked "proprietary," and several pages of news clippings and other public information related to government-surveillance issues.

The AT&T documents appear to be excerpted from material that was later filed in the lawsuit under seal. But we can't be entirely sure, because the protective order prevents us from comparing the two sets of documents.

This week, we are joining in efforts to bring this evidence to light in its entirety.

The rest of the article is here.

There also appears to be a long list of legal documents related to the EFF case at this site.

Dear No One Ever Listens To Me Anyway:

I heard that today was the opening of Universal Studios' movie "United 93" about the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania on 9/11.

The tagline on their website says, "From the acclaimed director of Bloody Sunday and The Bourne Supremacy," as if such a story needs a spy-thriller director to make it more real.

It can't help us remember - because we haven't forgotten. The only people who apparently have forgotten the meaning of that day are the politicians who whip out fear of terrorism as a stick to be used against the American people as they chip away at our cherished freedoms and drag our family members into a war built upon lies.

It can't be a memorial - memorials are built to honor the memory of people, not to make money off of their deaths. I visited that field in Pennsylvania a few years ago and a true memorial stands there free of charge to honor the lives of those who perished, and for me, it is what this film cannot be - heartfelt, genuine, loving.

No, this movie is everything that has gone wrong since that beautiful blue sky day was marked by smoke and terror. It is a travesty disguised as mourning, it is dishonor dressed up as honor, it is commercialism impersonating patriotism.

Boycott this movie. Universal Studios doesn't need your $12 and the people who died on that flight deserve your respect.

The Portrait of the Champion Idealist (eNFp)

The Champion Idealists are abstract in thought and speech, cooperative in accomplishing their aims, and informative and extraverted when relating with others. For Champions, nothing occurs which does not have some deep ethical significance, and this, coupled with their uncanny sense of the motivations of others, gives them a talent for seeing life as an exciting drama, pregnant with possibilities for both good and evil. This type is found in only about 3 percent of the general population, but they have great influence because of their extraordinary impact on others. Champions are inclined to go everywhere and look into everything that has to do with the advance of good and the retreat of evil in the world. They can't bear to miss out on what is going on around them; they must experience, first hand, all the significant social events that affect our lives. And then they are eager to relate the stories they've uncovered, hoping to disclose the "truth" of people and issues, and to advocate causes. This strong drive to unveil current events can make them tireless in conversing with others, like fountains that bubble and splash, spilling over their own words to get it all out.

Champions consider intense emotional experiences as being vital to a full life, although they can never quite shake the feeling that a part of themselves is split off, uninvolved in the experience. Thus, while they strive for emotional congruency, they often see themselves in some danger of losing touch with their real feelings, which Champions possess in a wide range and variety. In the same vein, Champions strive toward a kind of spontaneous personal authenticity, and this intention always to "be themselves" is usually communicated nonverbally to others, who find it quite attractive. All too often, however, Champions fall short in their efforts to be authentic, and they tend to heap coals of fire on themselves, berating themselves for the slightest self-conscious role-playing.
